Hello, champions! Emily Mardell here, your sports & family dietitian, and I’m thrilled to share a special recipe that’s not only delicious but also a powerhouse of nutrition. Recently, I had the pleasure of joining CTV Morning Live to showcase a recipe that’s perfect for fueling your day, especially if you’re an Edmonton Oilers fan gearing up for the playoffs.
Blueliner’s Maple Chicken Patties!
Let’s dive into a breakfast recipe that’s set to become a household favorite: the “Blueliner Maple Chicken Patties” most often levelled-up into breakfast sandwiches! This recipeis part of my Power Plays on the Plate ebook made in collaboration with my friends and partners Jason Strudwick and Alberta Chicken Producers, featuring a collection of recipes designed to give you the edge, just like our Oilers on the ice.

This recipe not only tastes great but also provides the protein and nutrients you need to start your day strong.
The Power of Protein
During my segment on CTV Morning Live, we talked about the importance of protein in your everyday eating, especially for athletes and active individuals. Here are some key points we discussed, along with why extra lean fresh Canadian chicken is one of my top suggestions. Check out a little BTS video on my IG @GetJoyfull and watch the full CTV segment here!
- Muscle Repair and Growth: Protein is essential for repairing and building muscles, which is crucial after an intense workout or game.
- Energy Boost: It helps maintain energy levels throughout the day, preventing those mid-day slumps.
- Satiety: Protein keeps you feeling full longer, which can help with maintaining a healthy weight and growth pattern.
- Immune Support: Adequate protein intake supports a healthy immune system, keeping you in top shape all season long.
Did You Know? “Complete proteins, like Chicken is a good source of heme iron, which is more readily absorbed by the body compared to plant-based iron sources. This is vital for maintaining healthy blood cells and energy levels.” – Emily
